In the middle of nowhere - En medio de la nada

No timing is bad timing to shoot and yesterday was no exception to document our adventures across United States. This time we were traveling with some good friends of ours when their SUV was wrapped up in smoke and they were forced to stop. They were lucky that the warranty of the agency was up to date and the agency sent a unit to take it back for revision and manteinance a few hours later. After getting their stuff together and changed their belongings to our Jeep, we all traveled together afterwards.

Nunca es mal momento para hacer una buena serie fotográfica, y el día de ayer no fué la excepción de documentar nuestras aventuras por las carreteras de Estados Unidos. En esta ocasión viajábamos con dos muy buenos amigos cuando su camioneta se envolvió de humo y se vieron forzados a detener el camino, por suerte la póliza de la garantía del servicio automotriz estaba en regla por lo que solamente fué necesario hablar con la agencia, quién quedó de pasar por la unidad un par de horas después. Fué cuestión de pasar sus maletas a nuestra camioneta y emprender de nuevo nuestro viaje.

The day came. After a few months of just getting our stuff prepared and putting a team together, Quiéreme is here. It is officialy launched today at the CEDIM's Design Week 2010. I am proud to see how our focused effort, sweat, tears, screams, laughs, tiredness, long nights and early mornings ends up like this. Thousands of things had to do with what had to happen to make Quiéreme possible. All which happened with a simple question…" What would happen if?"

El día se llegó, después de meses de intensa preparación de parte de todo el equipo de trabajo que participó en el proyecto Quiéreme, hoy se presenta oficialmente en el marco del Design Week 2010 organizado por ©CEDIM. Es un orgullo ver concretado tanto esfuerzo, sudor, lágrimas, gritos, risas, cansancio, desvelos, desmañanadas, mil y una cosas que tuvieron que suceder para que Quiéreme fuera una realidad que nació de una simple pregunta, "¿qué pasaría si...?

Making of School of Rock MX

After a few months of lots of seriousness in my work (and I am not saying that I haven’t had fun) I finally worked with some friends, kids in a very rock environment. Daniela and I had a lot of fun working with School of Rock MX. School of Rock MX is an American franchise that has the mission to build a music inspired individual from the kids and teens by learning to sing and how to play guitar, drums, base, among others. School of Rock MX has true rockstars as teachers which makes it different and in my opinion, better from the one in the US which gives the student the opportunity to actually learn from succesful artists who are doing what they love the most: rock.

Después de meses de mucha seriedad en mi trabajo, y con eso no quiero decir que no me haya divertido, por fin se nos presentó un gran proyecto donde nos divertimos Daniela y yo como niños entre amigos y un ambiente muy rockero. School of Rock MX es parte de una franquicia norteamericana que se dedica a la formación musical de niños y jóvenes que gusten del rock en sus distintas disciplinas como lo es el canto, guitarra, batería, bajo entre otras, a diferencia de las distintas escuelas que hay en Estados Unidos, SofR MX cuenta entre sus mentores a verdaderos rockeros consagrados, lo cuál da la oportunidad al estudiante de aprender de personas que viven y son exitosas en lo que mejor saben hacer, rockear.

This photo shoot also allowed me to test the Leica X1, which I have posted in my blog before. Even though it is not a professional camera, it has 12MP, DNG format and and full range in manual control that shows that it can be considered as a good tool. I am not saying that it can be used for professional photo shoots or that it is better than the professional cameras out there. Not at all. What I’m trying to prove is that it is not the camera that makes a photographer. I think that every camera is able to get a good shot, it is a matter of how you use it and how good are you as a photographer.

Esta sesión sirvió también para probar las capacidades de la Leica X1, de la cuál ya había hablado en un post anterior. A pesar de no ser una cámara fabricada para fotografía profesional, sus 12 MP, DNG formato raw y su full range en control manual dicen lo contrario, OJO, no estoy diciendo que se pueda tomar como una opción para dedicarse a la fotografía profesional, en lo absoluto, lo que quería demostrar es que la cámara no hace al fotógrafo, sea cual sea tu cámara estoy seguro que podrás tomar excelentes fotografías.

Yesterday I borrowed Daniela's Leica X1 for a moment. From the first day I saw that camera and bought it, I knew it was a beautiful camera with a romantic and bohemian look. Its design invites you to walk through Paris streets or through an Italian landscape...that's my own personal opinion.


El día de ayer me apoderé por un momento de la Leica X1 de Daniela. Desde el momento que la compramos sabía que era una cámara hermosa, con un toque romántico y bohemio. Su diseño invita a pasear por las calles parisinas o bien por alguna campiña italiana, al menos eso me imagino siempre que la veo. 


Its functionality and characteristics make this camera a professional one. I must tell you that the price is not affordable since two thousand dollars can be also well spent in a DSLR like the new Nikon D7000 (body that costs 1000 dollars) or a Canon Mark II by a 500 dollar difference. But, this camera for those who like something small with good professional characteristics.

Su desempeño y capacidades la hacen ser una cámara con propiedades profesionales. Hay que aceptar que su precio no es del todo accesible, pues sus dos mil dólares compiten directamente contra cámaras DSLR como la nueva Nikon D7000 que su precio anda al rededor de los mil dólares (solo cuerpo), o de la Canon Mark II, que pagando una diferencia de 500 dólares puede ser tuya (solo cuerpo), pero como dije, esta cámara es para personas amantes de la fotografía que gusten de las cámaras compactas con capacidades profesionales.


During a few hours I tested the camera in different situations. If you like movement, a great advantage to the Leica is definitely its size. Even inside with a bad quality of light, and a 3200 ISO (wich it's the maximum) it allows you to take excellent photographs without loosing quality since the point is fine.

Durante un par de horas la puse a prueba en diferentes situaciones. Si gustas de la fotografía en movimiento es una excelente contendiente con cualquier cámara profesional, con la ventaja de poder manejarla mucho más fácil por su tamaño. En interior con mala calidad de luz, su ISO 3200 (máximo) permite tomar excelentes fotografías sin tener pérdida de calidad, su grano es muy fino.

The photographs are not postedited. However, for security purposes, the license plate on the Higlander was blurred.

A excepción de la fotografía de la camioneta highlander donde por cuestiones de seguridad se le borró el numero de placa, ninguna fotografia ha sido manipulada.

Music in my life | Música en mi vida

My childhood was not different from other Mexican children who had theirs in the 80's. The absence of video games and Internet implied that you had fun with a ball or with a chalk to write and draw at the streets as if it was a big chalkboard. Today, I remembered the wonderful childhood memories I have thank to the reencounter with the LP discs that were part of my life in those years.

Mi infancia no fué tan diferente a la de tantos niños mexicanos de mediados de los 80's. La ausencia de videojuegos e internet nos hacía ser unos niños que se divertían con una simple pelota o con un simple pedazo de gis que servía para usar las calles de nuestras colonias como un gran pizarrón. Hoy fué un día en el que recordé todos esos maravillosos momentos de mi infancia gracias a mi re encuentro con los discos LP que fueron parte de mi vida en aquellos años.

How could I forget Cepillín? He sang to us every birthday that my brothers and I had first thing in the morning. Como olvidar a Cepillín, quién en cada cumpleaños entonaba Las Mañanitas a primera hora de la mañana a mi y a mis hermanos.

Enrique and Ana are both Spanish authors of the "Disco Chino" (Chinese disc in English) and "Mi amigo Felix" (My Friend Felix in English) which I still don't understand, who was Felix? And why did he die?. Enrique y Ana, esta pareja de españoles autores de la canción del famoso Disco Chino y de la canción de Amigo Félix, la cuál aún no entiendo quién era Félix y por que tuvo que morir.

Aaand Oneee Twooo Threee Foouur aaand Oneee Twooo Threee Foouur and Stop!.Exercise number three...That is how the the housewives exercised before the existence of super equipped gyms. My mom was no exception.. Yyyyy Uuuun Dossss Tresssss Cuatro yyyyy Unnnn Dossss Tressss Cuatro y Alllto...ejercicio número tres....Así es como se ejercitaban las señoras en el hogar, antes de los gimnasios súper equipados, y mi mamá no fué la excepción.

"Number 1 disc in México, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Germany, England and United States" definitely top 5 in my house. Como bien lo dice la portada del disco "Número 1 en México, Holanda, Bélgica, España, Alemania, Inglaterra y Estados Unidos" y en mi casa definitivamente era parte del top 5.

As soon as Christmas was coming, the disc of Juan Torres playing was a must in my house. That is how I remember my Christmases. Llegaba la época navideña y Juan Torres era básico en mi casa, así es como recuerdo mis Navidades.

I thank the Disney books for helping stimulate my imagination during my childhood. And, to be able to listen to Tin Tán play Baloo in the Jungle Book doing the best characterization from English to Spanish was priceless. Si algo me ayudó en mi infancia a estimular mi imaginación fué definitivamente los cuentos de Disney y oír a Tin Tán en el Libro de la Selva caracterizando a Baloo, para mi, uno de los mejores doblajes de la historia de Disney.
